Multi-instrumentalist (violin, imzad, kora), Richard Bourreau started to play the violin when he was 10 years old.
After classical studies at the Conservatoire d'Angers, he became one of the founder-members of the French mythical band LO'JO since its creation in 1984. His career within LO'JO allowed him to meet many artists: musicians, visual artists, dancers, choreographers.

He also worked many times alongside famous choreographers like Odile Duboc, for the Opera Garnier.

Over the years Richard Bureau has traveled over 40 different countries. He collaborated with Toumani Diabate, Yunchen Llamo, Louis Sclavis, Zakir Hussain, Airelle Besson, Archie Shepp, Boubacar Traore, Seb Martel, Juldeh Camara, Justin Adams, Tinariwen, Terakaft, Guo Gan, Zoumana Tereta...
